Le Select Cafe

Where in Europe: Paris, France

Where in Paris: 99 Blvd du Montparnasse, 75006 Paris (Nearest subway station: Montparnasse)

Here’s a picture of the front of the cafe:

What I had and how much they cost:

Teatime set – consist of a pear tart and coffee with milk. 11 (fucking) euros!

Comments:

The pear tart was absolutely disappointing; it felt stale and old. The coffee was a bit better, but nothing spectacular. 11 euros is way overpriced for the food, but I guess I was paying for the experience of sitting by the street, watching cars, cyclists, pedestrians, ambulances etc, go by, while getting baked by the sun and choking on cigarette smoke. The true Parisian lifestyle?

I noticed lots of the French just simply chillaxing, writing, reading, solving crossword puzzles, smoking, drawing, chatting, or doing nothing at all. I rather enjoyed the feel of the Montparnasse neighborhood. It is filled with creperies, cafes, bars, bakeries and lots of places to have something to eat and drink and to just relax. There is this sense of creativity and inspiration about it, perhaps because in the past such coffeshops or cafes are essentially the meeting places of artists, poets, writers, scientists, entrepreneurs, a meeting of minds of people who are brimming with ambition and aspirations. Really nice to feel like a part of it, even for a bit.

Did a bit of sketching too…
